Girls Football Division 3 – 5th place
Boys basketball Division 5 – 7th place
Boys basketball Division 4 – 2nd place
The team travelled to Lisbon on Wednesday afternoon and we settled into The Riviera Hotel at Carcavelos. Staff and students ate in the hotel´s food court as a team and retired to bed ready for an early start. On Thursday and Friday, students entered the first and second rounds of group fixtures. These concluded on Saturday with the Division 4 Basketball and Football finals. The Division 5 basketball team ended their tournament in a play-off game, along with Football Division 3 and Division 5 in play off.
Division 4 lost in the basketball final after a very tight match and close result which had great support in a very tense, competitive atmosphere. Head of PE Paulo Bitoque said: “The tournament was very well organised by CAISL and our teams were delighted that our Girls´ Division 3 team won the Fair Play award, which is voted for by all of the other teams. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young sportsmen and women to represent the school and to test their sporting skills and determination in a truly competitive environment. All of the students showed clear development in their game play throughout the competition.”
Headmaster Mike Farrer accompanied the teams to Lisbon and said: “This was a superb event in which we saw our boys and girls rise to the challenges ahead and work exceptionally well in their teams and as one school team. The support for each other was incredible and there was a clear desire from them after each game to talk to their coaches about how to improve their performance. It was a great pleasure to be able to see the students and coaches work together so well and we look forward to the April fixtures where girls play basketball and boys football. Many of these young people are also signing up for tag rugby, which has now been launched from Year 4 and we look forward to future competitions for this sport as well. At Nobel International School Algarve we consider sport to be an important part of every young person´s development – both physical, mental and well-being and are committed to providing the very best opportunities.”
