The nature-based Forest School concept originated in Denmark in the 1950s. It has been implemented at Nobel Algarve since 2019, under the leadership of teacher Matt Harris, a highly qualified outdoor education practitioner and accredited Forest School trainer. In Forest School, children explore, discover and experience meaningful experiences that encourage holistic growth and nurture a spirit of adventure. Activities are inspired by nature and include everything from weeding to walking. Forest School is also implemented at the brand new Nobel Almancil campus, which opened this year in September. Both Nobel’s Almancil and Lagoa campuses have beautiful and safe outdoor woodland areas and gardens. During this first term, the children at Nobel Almancil had an action-packed start to the school year in Forest School, come rain or shine! And Forest School is not just about walking in forests! So far they have explored the beautiful local woodland to see flowers and wildlife; they made dens, used tools to create wands and swords, learnt how to make and use fire to cook on, and generally had lots of fun whatever the weather! A little rain does not stop Forest School!
