Congratulations to our elected Year 13 senior students for 2018-19, International Section, Head Girls Sasha De Groot and Maiya Farrer.
Sasha, 17, from Almancil, has been at the school since Year 9, and she is studying A Levels in Travel & Tourism, Geography and Design Technology; she has her sights set on being an architect or interior designer.
Maiya, 17, is from Loulé and moved to the school in Year 11. She is studying A Level Maths, Physics and Design Technology and has the ambition to be a Naval Engineer.
Head of Sixth Form at Nobel International School Algarve, Ian Moran, said: “Maiya and Sasha beat off fierce competition from four other pairs of students and both staff and students alike commented on the huge effort that had clearly been invested into all of their campaigns. It was arguably the strongest field ever assembled for the position and the girls were both worthy winners. Both demonstrated in their presentation to the school their suitability for the role and I am confident that they will work hard to justify their positions and to implement the changes spoken about that captivated the attention of their peers and won them the majority vote.”
The girls´ first comments, after the results were announced were: “We’d like to thank everyone who had faith in us to fulfil our pledges, and we want to congratulate the other groups, who made it a very tough competition.
We want to make school as enjoyable as possible and to leave a legacy for everyone to enjoy in the future. We look forward to working with staff and students to achieve our goals.”
The two senior students plan to meet with Head of International section Maria Tomé, Deputy Head Jeremy Dow, and Head of School Mr Mike Farrer on a regular basis. Mme Tomé said: “It is such a genuine pleasure to see Sasha and Maiya so keen to take on this challenge and I know that they will work hard on behalf of the students. It is a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their leadership skills.”
